Year End Meeting in Wamuini Kenya

We opened up our fellowship in Wamuini , Kenya to the public for a few days of evangelism, exhortation, questions, etc. What a success! Below is the update from brother Haron, one of our indigenous leaders in Kenya.

The death of Our dear 30 year old brother Masaai last week brought many challenges, highs and lows, mourning and moments of anxiety. We thank Jesus who through his word reminded the youth that at no point could they stop depending upon him. As compared to the earlier meetings, this year’s youths fellowship stood out in many ways. To start with, there were 82 in all for quite a good number considering some were laboring at Masaai’s home and giving a helping hand to the mourners.

With the desire to see the young people not just believe but be different, the theme was “Stand Out” and truly that’s exactly what this meeting did – it stood out! The youth were taught about standing out in love, faith, prayer and purity (1 Timothy 4:12). The Bible Studies focused on godly living vs. worldly living. The topics dealt with include damnable sins of pornography, modesty , identity, sexuality; drugs and Substance Abuse, etc. Questions arising were handled carefully during the various afternoon group discussions held out during the entire period of the fellowship. The committed, trained and caring elders present tackled most of the questions arising from the main sessions.

The youth responded to calls to receive counseling into various areas of their lives where some confessed struggling with habits or equally destructive lifestyles arising from either broken parenting or peer pressure. I had earlier, at beginning of the meeting, encouraged the youth to share with us 3 elders present on challenges of peer pressure, influence on relationships due to poverty, or other circumstantial lifestyle issues such as coming from homes where a parent practices commercial sex, drug dealers or addicts and alcoholics exposing them to risky behavior. Eight souls of the newcomers accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. We also from deep our hearts thank God for our sponsors GMFC for the donations that has enabled us plan, arrange for accommodation, food and make available all the necessities for this very important meeting. -Bro Haron Wanjala
